April is Literacy Month at Embers!
This week, we kicked off Literacy Month with our inaugural Ignatius book fair! Sparks and their families had a great time browsing the new titles and discovering future favorites. Thank you to all who participated in the Book Fair and supported our new school library!
Didn’t have a chance to shop in person? Orders can still be made online by clicking HERE all year long! Embers will continue to receive a percentage of proceeds for each order placed.

The Book Fair kicked off our annual Literacy Month: “Pop Open a Good Book”

Our 5th Grade students helped the younger Sparks create their wish lists.

All our Sparks loved seeing the new book options!

Throughout the month, the Literacy Month Committee will be providing our Sparks with plenty of opportunities to explore the world of literature. Our month-long celebration will culminate in Literacy Week, which runs April 29-May 3. Highlights include:
- Bookmark Contest: All students in grades K – 5 are invited to participate in our annual Bookmark Contest. One winner will be selected per grade and each student will receive a bookmark with their grade’s winning design! Bookmark templates and instructions will be sent home on Friday, April 26.
- Reading Bingo: Also on Friday, April 26, students will bring home Reading Bingo cards. If a student completes any row of fun reading activities at home during Literacy Week, they will receive 5 EXTRA carnival tickets for Friday’s Carnival.
- Dress as your Favorite Character: On Tuesday, April 30, students may come to school dressed as their favorite book character and bring the book with them.
More Literacy Week information will be coming home this Wednesday!

Embers Experiences the Eclipse
On Monday, our Sparks experienced the rare opportunity to witness a solar eclipse in Chicagoland! After learning about eclipses and the power of the sun in the morning, students gathered outside and watched the moon cover 94% of the sun’s rays.
Fun Fact: According to NASA, the next total solar eclipse that will be visible in Illinois will occur on September 14, 2099!
