Enrichment
Our enrichment classes supplement our core curriculum to help students to expand their learning experience.
Enrichment Classes
Art
Art classes are taught to all K-5th grade students on a weekly basis. The program seeks to develop the aesthetic sensibilities of students, so that they may delight in the beauty and glory of God. Art is an important part of a well-rounded education, forming the heart and mind to perceive true beauty and encouraging students to contribute beauty in the world around us.
The philosophy behind Embers’ Art program is based upon the belief that all students learn in very different ways and everyone has gifts. Art class seeks to reach every student by helping them discover and use his or her own unique gifts.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori-based approach to Faith formation. Through engagement in practical work, Sacred Scripture, and the Liturgy in a dedicated space called the Atrium, children have the opportunity to encounter God and grow in their relationship with Jesus, the Good Shepherd. The Atrium provides an environment for students to ponder the wonders of the faith at their own pace and within a prepared structure that fosters freedom and independence.
CGS at Embers Academy supplements our faith formation program for students in Preschool through 2nd Grade. Our trained Level 1 and Level 2 catechists follow a three-year cycle of presentations based on the liturgical calendar, including the Annunciation and Visitation during Advent, the Nativity, and Adoration of the Magi during Christmas, and The Found Sheep during Easter.
Motor Lab
The Ready Bodies, Learning Minds (RBLM) program of Motor Lab uses consistent, foundational exercises to support the needs of all students. This task-oriented circuit training offers developmental support of motor skills which are necessary for a child to communicate in several ways, including writing, speaking, and keyboarding.
RBLM is used by the entire Embers student community, from PreK through 5th Grade. Motor Lab aims to improve a student’s ability to maneuver and function in their environment, leading them to better performances in tasks such as sitting still, paying attention, speaking, and behavior.
Music
Students in Grades PK-5 enjoy an energetic and well-rounded weekly music program. These classes engage students to further their enjoyment and understanding of music through the use of instruction, entertaining games, examples, and ultimately experience.
At an age-appropriate level, students are guided through the “8 Elements of Music”. These elements are presented in fun and constructive ways where students receive a hands-on experience and time to learn what musicianship is all about. These elements are put to use in an Annual Christmas Concert as well as weekly Mass Choir, where individual grades take turns serving as Music Ministers.
Physical Education
Embers students are given plenty of time for both structured and unstructured physical activity, including a weekly Physical Education class for student in K-5th grade. These classes work on developing motor skills, fitness, and flexibility while providing an opportunity to practice sportsmanship, teamwork and leadership.
Spanish
There is a sweet curiosity and flexibility in children that make early foreign language learning very natural and enjoyable. The main goal of Spanish classes at Embers is to instill a love of learning foreign languages in the young Spark.
Throughout the year, age-appropriate topics are covered, from basic colors and numbers to more advanced vocabulary covering hobbies and weather patterns. These topics are approached through interactive activities including games, songs, and stories to make the learning process engaging and enjoyable for the students.
